C-CITY
BIOMIMICRY + VERTICAL URBANISM
In collaboration with Arch. Beatríz Mora
EVOLO SKYSCRAPER 2011
Life originates through perfectly structured ecosystems, where every link whose absence is a broken part in the chain. Therefore, it does not complete the life cycle. The man, along the years has been involved in a self-described role, where he intends to control and dominate the natural system through the attachment of large cities and technologies that let the individualistic side function of the nature reserve and it is also responsible for destroying it. There is a talk of sustainability when making energy use items, such as solar energy in new constructions, using it as a plus that acts for the building. Everything works fine until this speech discusses the fact that nature does not act on the basis of single type of energy, but is the set of all what completes the ecosystem. So, why not restore the system as we know it, and relocate it in a place where you can use all the energy. Return to the sea, where life comes from, a fundamental element that contains both, living beings and the entire planet.
Let's return fertility to the land; creating new architecture that acts in conjunction with the ecosystem becoming a part of it. Since is not a plus, but it is life iteslf.

PROVENZA HOUSE
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
This house was designed for my uncle who was planning to move from Juchitlan to Guadalajara for his retirement and so his children (a boy and a girl) could study the university at the same city. In order to design correctly the spaces of their needs, I stayed at their house for one week studying their relationship and their common way to be. Everything went perfect and the spaces responded exactly to what they liked and how they moved in their house. But at the end, the wife realized that the house didn’t had tilted roofs so she didn’t approved the design. And the family decided to wait a little bit more for the construction of the house.
The project has a facade where the middle concrete wall is the protagonist of the design and it covers all the lengthwise axis. The “S” type frame that passes through the concrete wall involving the windows from floor to ceiling was another important elemnt of the facade designed and its purpose was to add more fluency to the design itself.
In the interior, the materials and small details were selected in order of the personality of each room and space, trying to use also the philosophy of colors to satisfy in a proper way the needs of everyone.
HABITA +
Archmobile + Workshop
In collaboration with Beatriz Mora & Victor Sanchez
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
“Habita +” is a production of ARCHMOBIL + WORKSHOP, a small design office created by Victor Sanchez, Beatriz Mora and myself. In this case, “Habita +”, was the proposal for the 1st Edition of CMIC Emprende contest, dedicated to the innovation of new technologies and construction systems. “Habita +” seeks a new and better life for a forgotten sector of the mexican society, the poorest people of my country, those who can’t even pay for a house with their social credit. So we decided to create a new typology of living housing, education, medical facilities and emergency shelters in case of natural disasters. The idea was that the product could be ordered by internet or directly with an official seller, where the client could order it with certain preferences, like materials that would change depending the geographical location for a better microclimate, number of rooms, etc. The transportation would be by trailers, boats or even by helicopters in case of an emergency. We managed to fit the unit module into a relatively small box that helps with the transportation because in this way, 12 boxes fit over a 40’ container. The unit module can be settled and built very easily with just two assistants, thats why “Habita +” is a modest but complete solution for fast construction facilities, specially for shelters.
BITTERTANG'S
BURBLE BUP
1ST PLACE CONTEST: CITY OF DREAMS
NEW YORK
Burble Bup is the winner of City of Dreams Pavilion 2011 from the FIGMENT organization in Governors Island, New York. A secret hideout for the summer where users can rest, climb, play or just small talk over its soil mounds, enjoying the shadows and colors reflected from its inflatable canopy. It is hard to understand how the minds of the main architects of the Bittertang team works, but as usual, the projects from the design farm are always pieces of materialized magic and Burble Bup is no exception. It combines childhood games, mirth, colors and smells of any child's playground memories, and this is what makes it so special, as we all reborn the kid that we have inside. Its nature is to fuse with its environment, the walls are made of soil filled fabric tubes which are seeded with grass that grows gradually, merging with its context.

BPARASITE OFFICE:
THE PLASTIC CLOUD.
In collaboration with Arch. Victor Sánchez
Because of the simplicity of the project objective, my partner (Victor Sánchez) and I, decided to design an office that could mimic the complexity of the clouds that are reflected on the crystal curtain of the existing building. The challenge was to understand the ephemeral forms, colors and gradients of the cloud. It was resolved by analyzing the climate patterns and creating conditions out of them. This dictated the new patterns that were followed by a script to generate the desired densities and layers that create the materiality of the parasite office.
CONCEPT: Explode the physical and visual elements of the existing building through the search of a complex materiality. Starting from a simple module to create an object/space where it could respond to the needs of the user and the environment conditions, in order to obey at its ephemeral state.
IJAS: Jalisco’s Institute of Social Assistance
Personal role: Design Leader
The IJAS is the Government’s cell in charge of the administration and financial support of the None Profit Organizations (NPOs).
I was hired by architect Ignacio Osuna who knew that I had a previous experience designing a proposal for the new IJAS’ offices. Together we designed a second proposal which was into the usual orders of simplicity and functionality:
NICE, QUICK & CHEAP.
But the IJAS asked for something more extroverted, that would reflect the new vision of the Government ideals and to become a reference for the surrounding context.
In order to find a concept we designed a collage that could express better ideas. The result was the neurons, the interconnections that make our system work perfectly. It’s because of these interconnections between the government and the NPOs that these societies can operate, dividing the connections to the main users’ benefits.
It‘s comprehended by regular offices, an investigation area, auditorium for 500 users, training rooms, and another section of offices for the main NPOs.
Another objective of the project is to explode the land’s potential to start a chain reaction in the zone, creating more jobs and reinforce the public space for a better quality of life for the citizens. The original budget to build this public office was of $5’100,000 USD.

HUICHOL GARDEN
In colaboration with Joaquín Hernández
The concept is to incorporate the aesthetics of the Huichol culture (colors, forms, cosmology and philosophy), creating a modular structure that exploits nature's wonders, mimicking the natural behaviors and patterns.
The Huichol Garden offers the user an experience that reflects the relationship between nature and the Huichol culture.

AXIOS: COMMUNITY CENTER
FINAL CAREER PROJECT
The Project is emplaced at the border of two rival neighborhoods over one of the most injured sectors of the city. Violence, discrimination, early paternity, gangs and drugs are part of the daily social conditions.
Our objective was to create a social development detonator in the area where the young were our main focus, those who are at their most critical stage of growth and are more affected by its hostile surrounding. Urban studies reveal that part of the problem is that they lack proper infrastructure, parks, sport facilities and spaces for a healthy recreation, that’s why the project emerged as a response to the public space: a community center able to demolish the social walls between both neighborhoods.
Graffiti is part of the urban image, it works as an identity and belonging symbol between the young, but in this case most of the messages are hostile. We decided to play with this idea and transform our walls into books, transmitting strong social messages that are related to each respective interior use of the buildings. These words, as the form of a jealousy in the façade, is designed with different sizes that respond to the density required for the right control of solar irradiation.
3 Buildings is what makes this an architectonic complex. The main building has an administrative character: it’s formed by the main offices, a library, and a Congress Hall. The second building is focused on the speciality of AXIOS, teaching and reinstatement of the young to the school. This complex’s area is provided with classrooms and workshops in order to help the young develop their full potentials. The last building is an sports center, it’s located over the rival neighborhood and its purpose with the users is to give a new, flexible and fun urban space on the top of the building, where the plaza takes place and merge with the actual weft and infrastructure.
Over the entire complex, the user can move freely through the buildings, its respective plazas, the gardens and sports facilities without having to worry about the topography, thanks to the multiple ramps designed to be comfortable for the handicapped.
The form, the function, the context and the user are working together to make the Axios Community Center, the ideal solution not only for both neighborhoods, but the entire sector of the city. It rises from the very needs of the most deserted area.

SUMA INTERNATIONAL Office and residential duplex
Freelance.
Status: Under construction.
This project is focused on two main options: the residential need for the main manager and guests and the operative offices of “SUMA INTERNATIONAL” a private organization of farm constructors. It’s placed on Méridaa, Yucatán, which weather can drop to 42°C. This represented a limitation on the use of glass for windows so they were selected in order to lose the less temperature possible. As the construction office they are, the like to show the materials and constructive processes they use to their clients, that way, the entire building is made of these materials. For example, the corrugated panel they use for the ceilings is used as a double skin in the walls in order to use it as shield from the strong sun rays
